Guangzhou Zoo, which covers an area of 42 hectares (104 acres), displays more than 400 domestic and exotic animal species. Among the Chinese rare and endangered species at the zoo are giant pandas, Chinese snub-nosed monkeys, golden monkeys and south Chinese tigers. The zoo's collection of rare birds – which includes red-crowned cranes, white swans and black-necked cranes – is one of China's largest. As the bird area includes a fine beautiful artificial lake, the zoo also attracts a large number of migrating birds.
The zoo is the home of Guangzhou Ocean World, Insect and Butterfly Garden, Goldfish Garden and exciting animal performances. The zoo is also an important animal research and breeding center.
