Liuhua Lake Park covers an area of 54 hectares (133 acres), two thirds of which is clear lake water: the remaining area is covered with greenery. According to legend, this lake was named Zilan Lake during the Qin Dynasty. In 1958, the government organized a volunteer citywide effort to build four man-made lakes including Liuhua Lake.
Liuhua Lake Park is divided into three major areas and each has its own focus and attractions and gives a natural and tropical touch to the park. Meng Yuan brings out the customs and cultures of the Dai people. Fu Qiu Island displays the typical features of Lingnan (southeastern Chinese) villages.
Pu Lin Square, Bao Xiang Playground, and Rong Yin Park provide much of the entertainment. Some of the entertainment areas allow visitors to experience activities such as gardening, pottery making, fishing and much more. In addition, the park features botanical gardens, bonsai landscapes and aviaries.
