During the dry season, Annular Lake is a series of 19 lakes separated by marshy land and reed beds. During periods of heavy rain, the individual lakes join to form Annular Lake. The lake sits 20 kilometers west of the Duerbote Mongol Autonomous Region on the Duerbote Prairie The area serves as a sanctuary for over 240 bird species, and rather incongruously is also a hunting ground for waterfowl and wild ducks during the autumn months.
The area of Annular Lake has a variety of activities to keep visitors amused, such as horse riding, fishing, canoeing and motor biking. There is also an amusement park and an island named Riyue Island (Sun and Moon Island) on which live several families. Visitors staying overnight. Banquets of regional food are prepared onsite: whole sheep are roasted and local dishes such as Sanhua Wuluo, Jiaozi and Sashimi are prepared.
