Description

Considered one of the "Four Great Towers of China", Yellow Crane Tower is nestled on the bank of the Yangtze River . Originally constructed in 223 AD, the temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times during the course of history. Most recently renovated in 1985, the tower is built in according to Qing Dynasty architectural concepts. However, also included in its revamped design are modern facilities such as an elevator to the top of the tower.

The 5-story pagoda stands 51.4 meters tall, and provides some great views from the top. It has been rebuilt to perfection, and includes 100,000 yellow roof tiles supported by 72 pillars, just as it did when originally built. It resembles a yellow crane spreading its wings and about to fly. Yellow Crane Tower also has impressive hand-painted murals, romantic poems and, around the National Holiday (October 1) ethnic minority folk dance performances.
