Description

Tiger Hill is also known also as Surging Sea Hill because of its natural beauty. The hill extends over an area of 1.4 hectares (3.5 acres) and is 36 meters (118 feet) high. Although the hill is relatively small, it has rich history dating back over 2,500 years.

There are many legends on how the hill obtained its name. Some argue that the hill resembles a crouching tiger, while others say that a white tiger appears on the hill to protect King Helu's resting place. Regardless of the legend, the hill is considered one of the greatest places to visit in Suzhou.

Visitors to this site will be mesmerized by the Sword Pond (Jianchi), believed to be the resting place of King Helu's sword. The hill is also dotted with other attractions including the Yuyan Pagoda. This monumental 7-story building has come to symbolize Suzhou and its ancient architectural style.

The Wanjing Villa should definitely not be missed. Considered one of Huqiu's best attractions, the Wanjing Villa (Wanjing shanzhuang) offers panoramic views from its multiple halls and balconies. The Villa's garden is notable for its masterpiece Bonsai garden, considered one of the best south of the Yangtze River.
