Although Hongfa Temple is relatively new (established in 1985), it is one of the most popular Buddhist temples in Southern China. The temple combines grand buildings with the picturesque scenery of Fairy Lake and Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. The lush green surroundings symbolize prosperity and abundance and the pine trees provide a cool retreat for summer tourists.
According to legend, Hongfa Temple was erected on a monastery dating back to many centuries. The founding monk established the monastery after having a vision of a celestial nymph at Xianhu (Fairy Lake). Next door to the temple is a pleasant and reasonably atmospheric vegetarian restaurant serving delectable vegetarian dishes.
