Auto Shanghai 1985 was the first international auto show in China and has grown into the most authoritative exhibition in China, as well as one of the most influential international exhibitions. Starting from 2003, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Automotive Sub-Council have been the organizers, taking the reins from the previous organizer; the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Shanghai Sub-Council.

The exhibition presents passenger cars, commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, special-purpose vehicles, auto design and new concept products, automotive parts and components, car audio systems, tires, measuring devices, maintenance equipment and other car products which showcase the latest achievements of the international automotive industry and leading technologies and products from domestic companies, reflecting the current development level of the entire automotive industry.

During the exhibition, CEOs from the world's largest automobile companies and world famous automobile design companies are invited to share new concepts in the automotive sector. Country pavilions such as The United States, Germany, Italy, Japan and Korea will be showcased as well. Well-known Brands and automotive groups treat Auto Shanghai as one of the important international A-Class auto shows.
