Description

The Melting Pot Upstairs is not somewhere to just eat, drink, and leave. Weekends we’re open from early afternoon and you can sit, slouch, chat, play our board games, stare in a daze or surf your way through a lazy afternoon until PGP starts playing early evening, after which it’s smooth tunes until everyone heads downstairs at around 10pm to carry the night on until the wee hours. On weekdays, come for dinner from 5-10pm: food includes prime Japanese steak and one of the city’s best cheese and chocolat fondues – it’s a great place to enjoy a relaxed summer’s evening with friends. Even we’re not sure if we’re a cafe, bar, or restaurant – we certainly don’t claim to be the hippest lounge spot in Shanghai or a new addition to the city’s upscale dining scene – but probably the best way to think of us is as an extension of your living room (with a fantastic band that just happens to play every evening). Like downstairs, it is simply an unpretentious place to hang out in the company of friends and take in the great music that’s playing.. Upstairs on Saturdays and Sundays PGP mainly plays Motown, with other classics thrown into the mix; you can expect Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees, The Supremes and the Beatles, all with a healthy dose of PGP style to boot.
