A mossy green pond, peaceful walkways and peaked roves make 1,200-year-old Yuantong Temple (yuantong si) the perfect place to spend a tranquil afternoon. Sit by the lake and study the octagonal pagoda that rests on the pool's only island. In 1956, a cultural relic that was presumed to be one of Buddha's teeth was briefly housed at Yuantong, and the site has been a landmark and a pilgrimage destination ever since. Check out the vegetarian restaurant on the premises.
