Daguan Park (Daguan Gongyuan) [大观公园]

Large View

Description

Daguan literally means "rand View" and it' a very apt name for this park and is beautiful pavilion. On the shore of Dianchi Lake, facing the Western Hills, the park was originally built in 1682 as the surrounds of a small Buddhist temple. Like many structures of its kind in China, Daguan Pavilion has been built and rebuilt many times over history. The one that stands today is three stories high, and was built during the Qing Dynasty in 1883. To commemorate its reconstruction, Qing Dynasty scholar Sun Ranweng adorned the entrance with a 180-character couplet. The park also has a number of other scenic spots, including Santan Yingyue (a set of man-made pools), Louwailou (a stone pavilion) and the beautiful Lu Garden.
