Description

Jinan's Daming Lake covers an area of 45 hectares (113 acres): over half the area of the park to which it has lent its name. This large lake was formed from a number of underground springs, ensuring that the water level remains constant, unaffected by heavy rains or drought. Six islands sit in the lake, planted with lush tall trees and dotted with pavilions. In the centre of the lake is a hexagonal fountain, which shoots water over 100 meters into the sky over the lake. In the summer, fragrant lotuses grow across half of the lake and weeping willows brush the surface of the water on three sides. Visitors can take yachts out on the lake, go fishing or just enjoy the view.

The Tie Xuan Temple was built to preserve the memory of an officer from the Ming Dynasty

who was put to death for one failure at the end of a life of good and loyal service. Locals felt this injustice keenly, and in 1792 - nearly 150 years after his death - the Temple was erected in his honor. The park is also home to Jinan's largest Taoist Temple, Beiji Temple which boasts Bell and Drum towers as well as several halls. A series of gilt and clay statues sit in the Front Hall, which represent Taoist gods and the elemental gods. It has been added to and restored many times since the original structure on this site was built in the Yuan Dynasty
