This temple is the official residence of the Living Buddha, and has been for almost 300 years. Many pilgrims from Tibet and other regions flock here to pay respect. If you are lucky, there might be a chance to head down to the caverns beneath the temple to view the ancient paintings that provide graphic images of the punishments that await sinners in Hell. The temple was first built in the Ming Dynasty, but was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, and has since been restored.
