Situated just south of the city on the east bank of the Li River, Chuanshan Park covers an area of 2 square kilometers with Chuanshan Hill as its axis. A major feature of the park is Tunnel Hill, which is pierced by a large cavern that goes right through the mountain from one side to the other. The cavern is a popular refuge for locals seeking relief from the heat in summer.
Another prominent hill in the park is called Pagoda Hill, after the Ming dynasty hexagonal pagoda at its summit, which is known as Longevity Buddha Pagoda (Shoufo Ta). The hillside is covered with maple trees, which make a spectacular display in the autumn.
