Fuzhou Wuyi Square Park is the geographical and spiritual heart of Fuzhou. A large ceremonial raising of the flag on New Year's Day and National Day is an occasion for celebrations with flowers and huge gatherings of local people. To the north of the square lie the municipal government buildings, on its south is the city's small Stadium and on its south and on the west sits the Fuzhou People's Congress Hall.
Every night, the square is a bustling meeting place for local people, who perform dances around the musical fountain and the white statues that sit at its centre. To the south of the fountain is a stainless steel sculpture named Sanshanyishui (three hills and one river), as well as a statue of Chairman Mao.
