Jiefangbei (also known as "Chongqing People's Liberation Monument") is a tall hexagonal monument standing in the centre of the Central Business District. It was erected in 1940 to commemorate the Chinese revolutionary Sun Zhongshan (Sun Yat-Sen) but was rededicated in 1945 after the war against Japanese aggression to honor the endurance of the townspeople during the Japanese occupation.
