The Chengdu Botanical Garden was Sichuan's first landscaped botanical garden. It has over 11 separate gardens, where a huge variety of rare plants are grown and studied.
It is known to be an institution of research for plant diseases and insect infestations, as well as being a place for cultivation. It specializes in the study of Lotus plants: specifically, the medical and culinary uses of this iconic plant.
